Add-ons, or extensions or plug-ins (they’re more or less the same thing), let you make your browsing more productive.
Add-ons may
- let you view non-HTML content (such as Adobe Acrobat documents or YouTube video) inside the browser
- let you add or organise content more easily
- enhance security
- access content from web-pages more easily
- change the appearance of your browser
Usually they’ll appear somewhere at the top of your browser window, like this:

Some add-ons come pre-installed with the browser.
