The Gannett chain of newspapers in the U.S. began an experiment with some of its newspapers equipping journalists with mobile equipment and shifting their emphasis to hyperlocal reporting. The premise:
We must deliver news and information on whatever platform our customers wish — print, Internet, telephone, Blackberry, TV, radio — and deliver it when they want it.
Here’s an initial report from 2006, six weeks in.
And a piece on lessons learned, from September 2007, and a speech which includes details of the shift.
A discussion about the experiment, and some links to stories.
