Some extra widgets to get more out of Twitter:
The best stuff are programs that make it easy to update Twitter and monitor it without visiting the webpage itself.
Standalone applications
Besides Tweetdeck, there are programs that leave smaller footprints, but do pretty much the same thing:
- twhirl (scroll down and click on the install now button; it’s being replaced by seesmic desktop, though I prefer twhirl.)
- destroyTwitter: despite its name it’s actually quite good.
Twitter is a social tool as well as a news-monitoring/gathering one. So quite a few applications focus on integrating it with other instant messaging and social network services. One is digsby, another Singapore’s own orsiso.

News: Breaking Tweets says it’s “interested in chronicling key news events each day, creating an archive of these events and what people are saying about them on Twitter.”
